It’s a beautiful feeling. You get into your vehicle, turn the key and it starts. You can put it in drive and make it to your destination. Have you ever wondered, though, what goes on between the turning of the key and the moving of the vehicle into drive? In short, it’s the electronic control unit (ECU) that controls the electrical systems in your vehicle, facilitates the communication between them all and let’s you reach your destination.electronic control unit

The ECU operates on the same premise as the BIOS unit inside your computer. In your vehicle, the ECU provides “instructions” to the electrical systems, giving the information on what to do and how to operate.

There are many types of ECUs including:

  • Engine control modules
  • Powertrain control module
  • Brake control module
  • General electric module
  • Body control module, and many others

In a newer model vehicle there could be close to 100 ECUs because of the complexity of the vehicle and increasing technologies. Vehicle technicians understand that both developing and maintaining the ECUs is a challenge as everyone of the units needs to communicate with the other in order to have seamless operation.

Many of these components utilize optical lenses in their high tech electronic applications and that requires the installation of specialized lens that are able to withstand not only vibration, but myriad environmental conditions.

Universe Kogaku designs and manufactures optical lenses for industrial, medical, high tech and electronic applications. UKA also provides standard and custom lens assemblies for scanners, CCTV, CCD/CMOS, medical imaging, surveillance systems, machine vision and night vision systems.
