Since the 1960s, light emitting diodes (LEDs) have made their way into the mainstream of lighting and are becoming the lighting option of choice for many. LED lights can be incorporated into both home and commercial settings with equal ease. It offers money-saving power options with lighting fixtures that meet the required needs in a long-lasting technology. The bulbs bring with them a higher up-front cost but the upwards of 50,000 hours of burning capacity makes up for that, many individuals believe.
If you look around your house you’ll see LEDs in many of the household technologies that you deal with on a daily basis, from digital clocks to remote controls to the illumination of your wristwatch and even your vehicle dashboard. LED televisions have enhanced the viewing experience when compared to the cathode ray models of the past. The LED technology also allows the television screens to be smaller and thinner than in the past.
LEDs work well in recessed lighting fixtures, strip lighting and for one-directional lights as used in desk lamps. The LED bulbs are useful in these applications because they don’t emit heat, which makes them safer for use.
Medical settings are another area in which LED lighting is making an appearance. Physicians and surgeons appreciate LED lighting as the fixtures can be configured to be as bright as necessary without adding the heat that incandescent lights bring to the operating room or other medical exam rooms. In industrial settings, LED lights are brighter and more efficient; industrial-setting lights can be found in traffic lights. Billboards and retail light displays lend themselves to LED technologies as they offer eye-catching displays and can be configured to display various messages throughout the day or season. Roadside billboards can be remotely re-configured which allows the advertiser greater flexibility with changing its message.
The variety and infiltration of LED lighting continues to move into different lighting realms as well as electronics and will certainly continue to gain larger footholds in our daily lives.
