When we get into image scanning lenses and image recognition technology we think of scanning documents or photos and converting them to digital form. This practice allows us to take something physical and digitize it in order to save it on a hard drive, post on a website, or share with friends through e-mail or a social media outlet. One of the ways we are able to do this is OCR. So what exactly is OCR and how does it work?
OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. Basically what happens is image scanning lenses are used to read text from paper and then translates this text into codes that the computer can understand. Once translated the document can be digitized and viewed and stored on a computer. This technology allows us to take a book, magazine, or any other document and turn it into an electronic computer file. We are then able to view the document on a computer and even edit the document through a word processor. OCR allows us to turn photographs into this digital form as well.
