LED lighting isn’t a new technology but it certainly is innovative and offers innovative options to both the homeowner and the commercial building owner. When you compare an LED (light emitting diode) with an incandescent light, you will see the efficiency and money-saving benefits of an LED.

LEDs are available for myriad applications in addition to home and commercial uses including streetlights, dashboard lights in vehicles and decorative purposes in swimming pools or holiday lighting displays and roadside billboards.

Those who have made a switch to LED light fixtures find they are more durable than incandescent lighting as LED lights burn for more than 50,000 hours. The fact that LEDs don’t emit heat and don’t contain harmful substances makes them perfect for areas that need to be kept cool and make them environmentally friendly.

Incandescent lights consume high amounts of power to illuminate a room; LED bulbs were invented as a way to illuminate a room while saving power. While LED fixtures are less expensive to operate, they do cost more up front but the savings are realized on the back end with lower utility bills. The LEDs, because they burn longer, don’t need to be changed as often as incandescent.

Just as incandescent bulbs come in various shapes and styles so too, do LEDs. These fixtures can be used both indoor and out and are perfect for outdoor lighting in landscape design. Because the LEDs don’t emit heat, they can be used to illuminate the outdoor living area around a swimming pool and can be draped in trees and bushes as a way to offer light without fear of damage to the foliage.

From remote control sensors to roadside billboards to the lights you use to read by at night and those that guide you to your vehicle in a parking lot, LEDs are being incorporated more and more into our daily lives.
