Laser Technologies

Laser technologies surround us in our daily lives; from scanning machines at grocery stores to the high tech use of lasers in the military, it can be incorporated into myriad medical procedures, military defense and manufacturing. The inherent properties of lasers, including the ability to achieve high power levels and monochromaticity and coherency make the technology an appropriate fit for many industries.

Microwave and electro-laser technologies are used by the military to repel attacks. These laser weapons are constructed for use in stunning targets and to disable the electronic systems utilized by those looking to mount an attack. Laser technologies are also utilized for detonating roadside bombs and can help reduce casualties to service men and women.

Military personnel use lasers to detect efforts by opponents that may be mounting an attack and the laser is used to counteract these measures through target designation. Infrared lasers can be used by the military as a precise weapon to target enemies. Fighter jets have been using the infrared technology to disarm missiles. Lasers enhance the military personnel’s ability to target rivals over long distances, and in the night. It can also be used in search and rescue missions as a way to shed light into dark places.

Even though laser technology is powerful enough to thwart attacks by enemies it can also be used for personal self-defense. A personal laser taser is a device used by police departments to stun criminals. The hand held devices deliver a high voltage shock to an individual. These devices are portable and easy-to-use and while they can be used to thwart an attacker, they don’t typically cause any long-term damage to the individual being tased.

Laser devices can also be used to disorient crowds of people. These devices, called dazzlers, delivery a laser ray that temporarily disrupt vision and leads to disorientation of those being subdued. These devices are non lethal and are particularly effective in night time raids. Law enforcement officials to disperse crowds without causing any damage to the individuals or property can use the dazzler.

Laser technologies are becoming even more prevalent in our daily lives and have certainly progressed from the point of a high school teach or college professor using a laser pointer to highlight information on a white board!
