Laser Imaging

Laser imaging can help us with things from barcode scanning to inspection systems in manufacturing plants. Diode laser lens assemblies have made so many things possible for us today and we continue to develop new ways to utilize this technology every day. Aimago, a Swiss start-up company has developed one of those new ways.

The Swiss company has just developed a new digital camera that can actually detect blood flow under the skin. This diagnostic imaging device is able to take more than 12 images per second to get a very accurate real-time image of a burn victim’s blood flow. By using a diode laser lens assembly the device is able to give a near infrared image of the patients’ blood flow at the spot of the burn. This gives them the opportunity to easily decide when the best time for an operation is.

The way the device works is the camera actually fires laser beams at the patients’ skin and these laser are reflected by red blood cells. The frequency of the laser is shifts as minute movements of the blood cells re detected. These movements are picked up by the device and are transformed into an image with color differentiations going from red, which represents high blood flow to blue, which represents low blood flow.

This diode laser equipped device gives physicians a much better opportunity to diagnose the severity of the burn. Using older methods even the most experienced burn victim doctor will misdiagnose the severity of the victims’ burn one-third of the time. With the help of diode laser lens assemblies these doctors will be able to correctly diagnose burn patients 98% of the time, while doing it three days earlier then it had previously taken.
