High-Speed Cameras

Camera and lens manufacturers continue to provide technologies that allow for cameras to be used in high speed, high level settings such as ballistics testing, sports applications, biomechanics, fluidics.

A camera has been introduced that can capture 4,000 frames per second at a resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 pixel resolution; when the camera is used to capture 800,000 frames per second the captured, the high definition pixel resolution is 1,280 by 720.

The camera is equipped with an electronic shutter that operates at a level of one microsecond per click and this provides “blur-free, black and white images with a 12-bit pixel depth;” for color images the pixel depth is 36-bit.

The camera houses three memory options as well as a patented “fastcam mini CMOS sensor” that has 10-micron square pixels. The camera is compatible with both F-mount and C-mount lenses and provides trigger mode operation.

Capturing images at lightning fast speed can be critical in “down-to-the-wire” finishes in sporting events, to track the trajectory of bullets in ballistics testing settings and to capture the movement of microbes in scientific settings.

Universe is a manufacturer of high-resolution lenses that are used in machine vision and highly sensitive operations; it also manufacturers C-mount lenses that can accommodate hi-res lenses.
