LED
Commercial business owners know they have many options when it comes to the lighting in their buildings and in the parking garages and warehouse they own. The recent choice by business owners has become LED lighting. Because lighting can be a substantial expense both in terms of equipping the fixtures with bulbs, the electricity used, and the cost and manpower involved in replacing blown bulbs, many commercial property owners are opting for LED lighting because of its long life and lower ongoing overhead.
When it comes to low-cost, energy efficiency and high-performance in the commercial lighting arena, LED (light emitting diode) fixtures are the best value. Even though LED technology has been around since the early 1900s, it is still considered by many to be “new” because it gained widespread appeal and acceptance in the 1960s. In today’s homes and in commercial buildings, LED lights have become popular for use in not only commercial settings but in daily use items such as mobile phone and interior car dashboard lighting.
The proven benefits of LED lighting include:
- They use less electricity than other bulbs and therefore emit less heat. This keeps the bulb comfortable to the touch and also doesn’t increase interior temperatures.
- Energy consumption in making a switch from traditional lighting to LED can be reduced by up to 90%.
- LEDs may come with a higher upfront cost, but they can burn for up to 50,000 hours (up to 25 times longer than a traditional halogen bulb) and five times longer than fluorescent bulbs.
- LED lights aren’t toxic. Fluorescent bulbs contain trace amounts of mercury.
- LED lights don’t emit UF or infrared rays.
- To increase brightness, LED fixtures can be retrofitted to hold more bulbs.
- Lighting isn’t compromised by a switch to LED lighting and performance is enhanced.
There are different lighting specifications when it comes to commercial situations; offices need different lighting than do warehouses or parking lots, but LED lighting can be configured to meet the needs of all these situations. If the commercial setting has recessed lighting fixtures, LED bulbs are better suited as they don’t emit heat and this makes them safer and less of a fire hazard. Add that to the mix of not having to be changed very often and the benefits of LED lighting continues to grow!
